Obituary

James L. Massey James LeFoy Massey, 66 of Columbus, MS passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011 at his residence. Visitation was held Saturday, April 23, 2011 from 5 - 8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, April 24, 2011 at 3 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Bro. Steve Lammons officiating and Bro. Ralph Windle assisting. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Massey was born September 18, 1944 in Columbus, MS to the late Sterling Noble Massey and Wilda Ruffin Massey Perkins. He retired in 2005 from the City of Columbus as Fire Chief with almost 40 years of service. Mr. Massey was a member and Deacon of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. He was also a member of T-Town Travelers Camping Club and a director of East Lowndes Water Board. Mr. Massey was a Gideon and enjoyed fishing, woodworking, hunting and gardening. In addition to his parents, Mr. Massey is preceded in death by his brothers - Roy Massey and Raymond Massey. Mr. Massey is survived by his wife - Betty McCrary Massey, Columbus, MS; sons - Timothy Allan (Taylor) Massey, Columbus, MS, Thomas Wayne (Christy) Massey, Columbus, MS; brother - Gerald Massey, Columbus, MS; sister - Margaret Fast, Dallas, TX; and grandchildren - Lauren Massey, Riley Massey, Ashley Massey, Bridger Massey and Levi Massey. Pallbearers will be Clyde McElrath, Henry McQueen, Dale Enlow, David Dortch, Leon McGarity, James Purvis and Hardy Hester. Honorary Pallbearers will be J.T. Lewis, Frankie Goldman, Walt Mosley, Jimmy Ruffin, Bobby Brandon, Trenton Sheffield, Current and Former Members of Columbus Fire and Rescue, East Lowndes Water Association and T-Town Travelers Camping Club.
