James Walter Newman, 85, of Columbus, MS passed away Thursday, September 10, 2020, at Aurora Health and Rehabilitation Center, Columbus, MS.

A funeral service will be Monday, September 14, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Al Hamm officiating. Interment will be in Egger Cemetery, Caledonia, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Newman was born on October 25, 1934, in Hamilton, AL to the late Rhoda Linley Newman and Floyd Newman. He was a member of Church of God, enjoyed playing guitar, and playing in the senior band. In addition to his parents, Mr. Newman is preceded in death by his brothers- Alphas Newman, Leonard Newman, and Louis Newman.

Mr. Newman is survived by his niece Elisa Tubbs of Columbus, MS; 2 sisters- Selma Gilmore of Columbus, MS and Fay Smith of Hamilton, MS.
