James R. "Sonny" Oswalt, 80, of Columbus, MS passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at his residence.

Visitation will be Friday, January 4, 2019, from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home Columbus, MS. He will lay at state Saturday, January 5, 2019, from 9:00 Am-10:00 Am and service will follow at 10:00 AM at Fairview Baptist Church Columbus, MS with Bro. Sammy Crawford officiating and Bro. Tommy Gillon assisting. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.

Mr. Oswalt was born on June 22, 1938, to the late A.M. and Reveland May Godfrey Oswalt. Mr. Oswalt was a jack of all trades he was in the Air Force Reserves for 20 yrs. He also worked at the Columbus Police Dept. as a Detective Lieutenant for 20 years., he worked at Lowes for 10 years, worked as a locksmith part-time and served as a deacon at Fairview Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his brother-Tommy Oswalt and nephew-Thomas "T" Oswalt.

Mr. Oswalt is survived by his wife-Mary E. Oswalt; daughters-Daphne (Bill) Gordon, Holly (Joey) McCullough; brother- John F. Oswalt;  grandchildren-Tommy (Stephanie) Gordon, Michael (Kadie) Gordon, Walker McCullough and Brandi McCullough; great-grandchildren-Laura Kate Gordon, Asher Gordon, and Maddie Claire Gordon.

Pallbearers- Tommy Gordon, Michael Gordon, Walker McCullough, Andrew Oswalt, , Buddy Godfrey, Hobbie Oswalt, and Mac McManus. Honorary Pallbearers- Columbus Police Dept, His fishing buddies, his Sunday School class and his bowling buddies.
