James Hutcherson, Sr., 83, of Columbus, MS passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital, Memphis, TN.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 3, 2016, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Skinner officiating and Bro. Steve Lammons assisting. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Columbus, MS.

Mr. Hutcherson was born September 2, 1933, to the late N. L. Hutcherson and Martha Jane Murphy in Fernbank, AL. He moved to Columbus in 1953 and worked for The Office Supply Company for 21 years. Mr. Hutcherson entered the ministry  in 1975 and pastored Plymouth Baptist Church, Columbus, MS; Longview Baptist Church, Starkville, MS; Grace Chapel, Aberdeen, MS; and Bethesda Baptist Church, Crawford, MS. He retired in October 2003. His passions were that he loved people and touched many lives with his humor and wit. Mr. Hutcherson cherished the opportunity he had to be a minister and loved preaching God's Word. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife – Alma Brandon Hutcherson, son-James Alfred Hutcherson, 4 brothers and 1 sister.

Mr. Hutcherson is survived by his daughters – Beth (Merrel) Pennington, Collierville, TN and Mary Harms, Poplar Bluff, MO; son – James (Sheila) Hutcherson, Jr., Ethelsville, AL; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and special friend – Lucille Alexander.

Pallbearers will be Neal Tucker, David Alexander, Ernie Lowrimore, Eddie Hill, Bubba Gray, and Bobby Brandon.
