James Hollis Wright, Jr., 86, of Caledonia, MS, passed away Monday, September 16, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital- GT in Columbus, MS.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. at New Salem Baptist Church in Columbus, MS. Funeral Service will be Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at New Salem Baptist Church with Bro. Mel Howton officiating. Interment will follow at Lamar Memory Gardens in Vernon, Alabama with Lowndes Funeral Home will be directing.
Mr. Wright was born October 24, 1937, in Columbus, MS to the late James Hollis Wright and Byrtha Mathis Wright. Mr. Wright was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a decorated Combat Pilot in the F-105 aircraft. He was of Baptist faith and attended New Salem Baptist Church in Caledonia, MS. Mr. Wright was a Gideon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was married 65 years to his high school sweetheart, Nobel Reeves Wright. Mr. Wright enjoyed building and flying radio control model airplanes, fishing, and hunting. He was an avid reader, Mississippi State Bulldog fan, and Atlanta Braves fan. Mr. Wright taught all of his grandchildren how to drive. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wright is preceded in death by his brother- Joseph Wright, and grandchild- Nicholas Adams.
Mr. Wright is survived by his wife – Nobel Reeves Wright; son- James Kirk (Kimberly) Wright; daughter- Jennifer (Thomas) Adams; grandchildren- Christine (Daniel) Martin, Matthew (Hannah) Adams, Sarah Adams, David Adams, Zachary (Alexandra) Wright, Lauren (Josh) Verble, Hannah (Zack) Nerenberg, and Daniel Wright; great-grandchildren – Elianna Martin, Tatiyana Martin, Leo Adams, Ela Adams, Carter Howard, and Evelyn Brenna Shay Nerenberg.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Adams, Daniel Martin, Zachary Wright, Daniel Wright, David Adams, and Matthew Adams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lamar County AL Gideon Camp, Amazing Senior Saints Sunday School Class, Dr. J. Bart Williams, and Lamar County High School Class of 1956.
