Jan Varnon

Mary Janice “Jan” Stapp Varnon, 87, passed away on March 26, 2026, in Canton, Ga. The visitation will be Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 12:00 P.M. until 1:30 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. The graveside service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Egger Cemetery in Caledonia, MS. Lowndes Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.

Jan was born November 19, 1938, in Caledonia, Miss., to Gay P. Stapp and Nettie Moore Stapp. She was preceded in death by her parents and two eldest children, Julie Newman, of Birmingham, AL, and Jay Cassady, of Navarre, FL. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, John Boman Varnon, also from Caledonia; her son, Phillip Cassady (Michelle), and grandchildren: Rachel Cosson, Coleman Cassady, and Katherine Griffis.

Jan was a faithful follower of Christ and was active in the women’s ministry at her local church for many years. She was very artistic and enjoyed painting, refurbishing antique pieces, arts and crafts, sewing, and gardening, as well as traveling. Most of all, she found joy in spending time with family and friends and serving others.
