IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jane
Godfrey
July 21, 1945 – November 27, 2024
Linnie Jane Lofton Godfrey, lovingly known as "Jane," passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, leaving a legacy of love, wisdom, and devotion to her family.
The family will celebrate her life with a visitation on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. and service beginning at 2:00 p.m. all at Lowndes Funeral Home with Pastor Justin Grifford officiating. Graveside will follow at Friendship Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jane's memory to Beersheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church, honoring her enduring faith and love for her church family.
Jane was born on July 21, 1945, she was the cherished daughter of Margaret Elizabeth "Bess" and W.L. "Buck" Clardy. She graduated from S.D. Lee High School in 1963 and, later that same year, married the love of her life, James William "Buddy" Godfrey. Their 61-year union was a testament to enduring love and partnership.
Jane had a remarkable career, working in various roles throughout her life, including as a nurse's aide at the Columbus Hospital, at The ACT Center, Ruth's Department Store, The Credit Bureau, Reeds Department Store, and Columbus Vision Center. Her adaptability and intelligence were well known, as was her knack for knowing "a little about everything." If ever doubted, she had the uncanny ability to prove herself right.
Her greatest joy was her family. Jane was fiercely proud of her children, and her pride extended equally to her grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent watching them play sports, perform in the band, dance, and show dogs. Capturing these moments became a passion, and Jane, affectionately known as "Kiki," was famous for always having a camera in hand. Later in life, photography became her beloved hobby, and her photos became treasures for those she loved.
Jane was blessed to meet and love two great-grandsons, Riley James Godfrey and Jayden M. Limary, who brought her immense joy in her final years.
A devoted member of Beersheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Jane found strength and community in her faith.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Bess and Buck Clardy. She is survived by her devoted husband, James W. "Buddy" Godfrey; her children, Margaret Elise VanNostrand (Norm), Laura Jane Hendrix (Jeff), and William Lance Godfrey (Stephanie); her grandchildren, William Bryant Godfrey (Wesleigh), Christina Michelle Godfrey Reed-Wood (Jared), Gaib Michael VanNostrand, Kassalyn Faith VanNostrand, and James Sudduth Fuller; and her great-grandsons, Riley James Godfrey and Jayden M. Limary and half-brother Henry Burton Giedzinski.
Pallbearers will be- Donnie Brown, John Gore, Charlie Studdard, Mike Andrews, Tommy Hall, and Rick Garner. Honorary Pallbearers will be- Lura Brown, Debbie Gore, Margie Studdard, Suzie Andrews, Lane Hall and Sharon Garner and the Men's Fellowship at Beersheeba Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Jane's memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her. Her wisdom, wit, and unwavering love were gifts to those around her, and her life was a beautiful example of devotion, resilience, and joy.
