Obituary

Jean Marshall Carter, 89, of Columbus, MS passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Trinity Health Care, Columbus, MS.

A visitation will be Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 9:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. at Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Sammy Crawford and Bro. Tommy Gillion officiating. A family interment will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.

Mrs. Carter was born February 12, 1932, in New Albany, MS to the late Donald and Rubye Marshall. She was a graduate of New Albany High School, where she was senior class president and was instrumental in planning her senior class trip to Washington, DC. This was the first senior class that was able to go on a graduation trip at her high school. After high school, she attended Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS. When she married Roland Carter in 1953, she became a fulltime homemaker and mother to her two children. Mrs. Carter was a long-time member of Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and loved working at Wednesday Night Suppers for many years and was known to everybody as Ms. Jean. She also enjoyed many years of being an experienced seamstress. Receiving the title of "Granny" was something she was most proud of and enjoyed camping and traveling with her grandchildren and friends.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her loving husband of 68 years- Roland Carter, Columbus, MS, son- Glenn (Ginga) Carter of Columbus, MS; daughter- Karen Bowers of Columbus, MS; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and sister- Barbara Lott of Petal, MS.

Pallbearers will be Craig Barefield, Justin Carter, Alex Stratton, Clayton Anderson, Bob Crigler, and D.R. McElhenney.

Memorials may be made to Helping Hands, Fairview Baptist Church Missions Ministry, or to Blair Batson Children's Hospital Jackson, MS
