Jerry Lamar Chunn went home to Jesus on April 8, 2026 at age 89.
Jerry will be greatly missed. A celebration of life service will be Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at Whitehall Church in Louisville, MS, with a fellowship afterwards. Lowndes Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
Jerry was born to Lucious and Lois Miles Chunn in Louisville, MS. He met his wife, Pauline Burton Chunn, on a blind date while Jerry was on leave. They corresponded through letters for years before marrying on January 4, 1959. They traveled the world as he served in the United States Air Force as Chief Master Sergeant. He also was a Mason and Shriner with the Sam Davis Lodge of Nashville, TN for 60 years. They had two children – Kathy and Michael.
Jerry was known as Dad, Chief, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and Uncle Jerry to those who knew him. His dedication to serving his country resulted in 30 years of active-duty service along with 10 years of civil service. His example of hard work inspired his daughter, son, and two grandsons to serve in the USAF and USN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Technical Sergeant Michael Chunn; two brothers, Sam Chunn and Paul Chunn; and two sisters, Shirley Jones and Janice Riley.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Pauline; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy (Retired Senior Master Sergeant, USAF) and Jeff (Retired Master Chief Machinist Mate, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, USN) Crouell; grandchildren, Bryan (Senior Airman, USAF) (Amberly) Chunn, Brandy (Kyle) Yentzer, Jonathon (Jennifer) Chunn, Gerry (Culinary Specialist Submarine, First Class, USN) Wilson, Jeni (Jamie) Gordon, and Austin Crouell; great grandchildren, Levon Chunn, Logan Williams, Anora Yentzer, Atley Chunn, and Tristan Yentzer; sister, Jewel Watkins; and many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Taniesha Hood, Dallas Niswonger, Will Godfrey, Latasha Cunningham, ComForCare, and Baptist Hospice for their tender, loving care of Jerry and bringing laughter during this hard time.
