Obituary

Jerry Wayne Hayes, 77, of Columbus, MS passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS.  The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Bro. Ty Danielson officiating.  The interment will be at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Hayes was born in Lamar County, Alabama to the late Willie Mae Hayes and Burvil Hayes, on May 25, 1945.  He attended Sulligent High School before serving in the United States Army. On November 24, 1967, he married his wife of fifty-six years, Mary Hayes.  After working with the Commerical Dispatch for 42 years he retired as the Press Supervisor. Mr. Hayes loved spending time with his family and friends and will be missed.  In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother Stanley Hayes.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Harris Hayes; daughters – Tracy (Steve) Reynolds and Pam (Scott) Nipper; grandchildren – Tiffany (Dustin) Blaxton, Dylan Reynolds, Wesley (Makayla) Johnson, Molly Reynolds, Austin (Kalee) Talley, Landon (Kenzie) Nipper, Logan Nipper; great-grandchildren – Judslee Blaxton, Bailey Johnson, Sunny Blaxton, Waylon Johnson, Mae Blaxton.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Pate, Rodney Graves, Alan Crane, Andy Caldwell, Gerry Burnett, and Andy Brown.
