Jerry Donald Kelley, age 81, of Columbus, MS passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS.
A visitation will be held today, Tuesday, October 30, 2018, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Springhill Baptist Church, Carrollton, AL. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at Springhill Baptist Church with Bro. Bert Noland officiating. Interment will be in Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Kelley was born on January 5, 1937, in Columbus, MS to the late Esom Johnson and Anne Logan Kelley. He was a graduate of New Hope School and he served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Kelley retired from the CSX Railroad, formerly known as L&N Railroad, after a 35-year career serving in many capacities as a conductor as well as an engineer. He had a passion for farming, and loved his farming community friends. He was a long time and very faithful member of Springhill Baptist Church, Carrollton, AL. Mr. Kelley was known as a "man of his word", he enjoyed studying civil war history and family genealogy. He was a proud graduate of the University of Alabama and was a devout Alabama football fan. Mr. Kelley loved football in general including coaching for various little league football organizations. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter- Robyn "Sissy" Chastang, and siblings- Franklin Kelley, Peggy Anne Kelley Leonard, and Walker L. Kelly.
Mr. Kelley is survived by two daughters- Terri Fordham (Duncan) of Evans, GA, and Sheri Lynn Kelley of Mobile, AL; grandchildren- Alyssa Rodriguez, Kristen Cozart (Aaron), Brandyn Logan (Tatum), Ashton Mansfield, Laurynn Stack, Johnathan Stack (Meagan), and Micah Chastang; great-grandchildren- Marley Cozart, Kinley Cozart, Cadyn Logan (Due 11/1/18), Isabella Stack, Forrest Stack, and Lucas Stack; a nephew- Richard Leonard; two nieces- Debi Atkins, and Donna Kelly; and a host of close friends whom he dearly cherished.
Pallbearers will be Fulton Provost, Mitchell Roberts, Michael Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Scott Johnson, and David Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Members of the Industrial Board, Town of Pickensville and the Rivermont Community.
