Jimmy Newell Jimmy Newell, 69 of Steens, MS passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – GT, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 6, 2012 from 9-11 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Newell was born May 4, 1943 to the late James C. and Elsie Rae Trimm Newell in Stuart, Oklahoma. He was a native of Prentiss, MS. He retired in 2006 from Georgia Pacific in Monticello, MS after 42 years of service. Mr. Newell enjoyed music, especially playing the guitar. He also enjoyed fishing, working with his hands and building things. In addition to his parents, Mr. Newell is preceded in death by his eldest son, Jimmy Franklin Newell. Mr. Newell is survived by his children- Timothy Newell, Bossier City, LA, Deborah Newell, West Haven, UT, Jimmy Newell, Jr., Jacksonville, FL, Donna Litzin, Jacksonville, FL, Ashley Bridges, Hattiesburg, MS, and Jonathan Newell, Savannah, GA; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; sister- Jewell Hollowell, Columbus, MS and brother- John Dale Newell, Benton, AR. Pallbearers will be Joseph Bridges, Jonathan Newell, Mike Smith, Mark Smith, David Smith, Timmy Newell and Dale Newell.
