Joann Bowen Mathis Joann Bowen Mathis, 82 of Columbus, MS passed away, Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at her residence. Visitation will be Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 10:00 - 12:00 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home and Crematory, Columbus, MS. Mrs. Mathis was born August 14, 1929 to the late James Alton and Josephine Cooper Bowen in Eupora, MS, she moved to Columbus 40 years ago from Meridian, MS and was a member of Murrah's Chapel Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. In 1972 she married Horace C. Mathis in Carrollton, AL by Judge Robert H. Kirksey. She retired in 1982 from Woolco as a department manager and enjoyed life especially cooking, gardening, fishing and quilting. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister - Donna Rose Bowen Miller and brother - Charles Alton Bowen. Mrs. Mathis is survived by her husband - Horace Clayton Mathis, Columbus, MS, daughter - Jennifer (Richard Lee) Long, Livingston, LA, sisters - Jamie (Jimmie) Bowen Covington, Joyce Bowen Thompson, brother - in- law - Ken Miller, all of Meridian, MS, Grandchildren - Milton Craig (LaDonna)Long, Richard Casey (Dane') Long, Great-grandchildren - Conner Long, Noah Long, Courtlin Long, Luke Long, Caleb Long and many nieces and nephews.
