John "Jack" Edward Mason, Sr.,  91, of Columbus, MS passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 22, 2021, from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Dr. Bill Hurt officiating and Bro. David Honeycutt assisting.  Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.

Mr. Mason was born October 14, 1929, in Pickens County, AL to the late Ollie Frances Smith Mason and Harvey Bryant Mason. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Mason retired from The United States Army as a Staff Sergeant, and also retired as a chef at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He worked security at Eka Nobel and MUW and also was an Aux. Police officer.  Mr. Mason was a member of Shriners, Masonic Lodge, VFW, and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mason is preceded in death by his daughters- Linda Burns, and Joyce Knight; sisters- Margie McRae, Frances Cooper, Martha Vaughn, and Myrtie Honeycutt.

Mr. Mason is survived by his wife of 71 years- Laura Boman Mason of Columbus, MS; daughters- Brenda Junkin, Loretta (Lamar) Harper, Frances (Patrick) Perrigin, Rebecca Both, Imogene Towery, and Judy Lane; sons- John Mason, Jr., and David Mason, 18 grandchildren, an abundance of great and great-great-grandchildren; brothers- Bill (Maxine) Mason, James (Debra) Mason, and Rufus (Jane) Mason; sisters- Margaret (Leslie) Baucom, Thelma (Steve) Strickland, Christine (Roger) Perrigin, Lois (Charles) Burr-Vicent, Doris (Freeman) Petty, and Inez Harcrow.
