John Thomas Thompson, 80 of Columbus, MS passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – GT, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Friday, September 14, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 10 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS with Bro. Tommy Gillon officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Thompson was born October 6, 1931 in Choctaw County, MS to the late Winston Dewitt and Laura Gladney Thompson. He moved to Columbus 52 years ago from Ackerman, MS and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean Conflict. He retired from United Insurance after ten years of service as an Insurance Agent. Mr. Thompson loved fishing, farming, horseback riding and enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and Western movies. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by brothers-Richard Thompson, Dewitt Thompson, Leon Thompson and sister-Hilda Mae Whitmire. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Geraline "Jeri" Campbell Thompson, Columbus, MS, son-Winston (Janice) Thompson, Columbus, MS, granddaughter-Laura Thompson (Landon) Hutchinson, and sister-Martha Lee McGee, McCool, MS. Pallbearers will be J.B. Cox, Leamon Street, James Oliver, Pat Adair, Jim Sprouse, Gary Franks, Don Pritchard, and Wade McCrary.
