John "Cliff" Wells, 87, of Columbus, MS passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015 at his residence. Visitation is from 1:00PM-2:00PM Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Westmoreland officiating. Interment is at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery in Hamilton, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Wells was born January 29, 1928 to the late John F. Wells and Mozell Self Wells in Pontotoc, MS. He married Edna G. Wells on October 26, 1981. Mr. Wells served in the United States Air Force and the United States Army for a total of 15 years as a Non-Commissioned Officer and SSGT. During this time, he served actively in Korea and received commendations for his duty. In his civilian life, he worked in construction as a millwright for Morgan Construction Company for 25 years. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Hamilton, MS. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Lynn Hankins. Mr. Wells is survived by his wife-Edna Grace Wells; children-Mark (Pam) Anthony Wells; Jackie Rudd; Jimmy (Anita) Hankins; Jerry Hankins; Ronnie Hankins; Diane (Lynn) Westmoreland; Allen Hankins; and Randy Hankins; sisters-Faye Wells Roberts and Kaye Wells (Robert) Irvin; brothers-Robert Vern Wells; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Trey Lancaster, Drew Hankins, Dylan Hankins, Jr. Lancaster, Johnny Hankins, and Ronnie Hankins. Honorary Pallbearers are Frank Allen, Vern Wells, Robert Irvin, and Tommy Johnson, Sr. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.
