Johnnie Mae Newman

Johnnie Mae Newman, 81, of Columbus, MS, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Aurora Health and Rehabilitation Center in Columbus, MS.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. following the visitation with Bro. Chris Hamm officiating. Interment will follow at Egger Cemetery, Caledonia, MS, with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Johnnie was born October 2, 1944, in Columbus, MS, to the late Vester G. Bailey and Effie Mae Richardson Bailey. She was a member of Victory Free Will Baptist Church in Columbus, MS . Mrs. Johnnie enjoyed writing letters and telling jokes. She always had an uplifting and encouraging word when people needed it most. Mrs. Johnnie also loved singing and being a part of the choir and senior band. She loved flowers and working outside in her yard, but most of all, she loved spending time with her church family and friends, as well as with her family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnnie is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Cecil Newman, and daughter, Mollie Ann Whitehead.

Mrs. Johnnie is survived by her granddaughters, Lesley Vail and Lindsey Beard, and her great-grandchildren: Jax, Elliana, Brixton, Jesse, and Beckett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Victory Christian Academy or Victory Free Will Baptist Church at 100 Victory Loop, Columbus, MS 39702.
