Obituary

Johnnie Bruce Partridge, 82, of Columbus, MS, reached his heavenly home on the evening of February 12th, 2025. He was greeted by many friends and family members including his bride and soulmate, Mary Partridge with whom he will celebrate 55 years of marriage on Valentines Day; parents Clifford and Annie Belle Partridge; brother Edward "Red" Partridge; and sissy son-in-law number one Kimmy Mixon (his ride-or-die). Knowing he is at peace celebrating in the presence of Jesus is comforting to those he left behind: sister, Regina Boyte (Sonny); daughters: Melanie Benson (Byron- Sissy son-in-law number two) and Robin Mixon (Derric Belcher); five wonderful grandchildren (four who unconditionally embraced the title of "Johnnie's Buddy" and one who teased him by adamantly refusing at random times): William Mixon, Clayton Mixon, Madeline Houston (Joe), Claire Benson (fiancée Justin Black), and Lily Benson; great grandson, Henry Houston; and a host of loved ones.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home in Columbus, MS. Funeral Service will be Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home in Columbus, MS. Lowndes Funeral Home, entrusted with all arrangements.

Born in Franklin County, MS, Johnnie was known for his intelligence, wit, impeccable character, and cat-like reflexes. He was known as the Franklin County Flash in his school days, excelling in all sports. After a brief time at Co-Lin Junior College, Johnnie enlisted in the Navy and traveled the world. Despite a failing memory, he could accurately recall his adventures as an E5 anti-submarine air controller and served on the USS Blandy during the Cuban Blockade. Though heroic, his service time was no different from how he led his life—valiantly putting others first.

Johnnie's career as an electrician and maintenance technician in the paper mill industry spanned over four decades with his last 22 working years spent at Weyerhaeuser in Columbus and earlier years at Diamond International, International Paper, and Manville in Natchez, MS. He made many lifelong friends through his work and was always game for a healthy political debate, often taking the unpopular position for sport. This banter continued post-retirement at his "Coffee Club."

Passionate about learning, Johnnie read voraciously from his eclectic collection of books and magazines and on-line resources. His relentless quest for knowledge led to him attending MUW enrichment classes for two years where he excelled in all subjects. Johnnie loved music, too, and even took guitar lessons after he retired and never lost his desire to play piano. He is probably playing "Last Date" now.

Johnnie set an exemplary example of chivalry for his children and grandchildren and was proud of each one. Whether he was watching Ole Miss football, driving the tractor, getting a haircut, "sneaking off "for donuts or biscuits, or "heading to the barn," his "buddies" were always welcome. He never missed an opportunity to treat them to a fun time. His influence was so impactful that the family vernacular includes the terms "Johnnie jokes," "Johnnie money," and many of his favorite lines including "It is what it is" and "Do your best." He was known for soliciting volunteers to "rob a bank" with him when he wasn't busy "sitting on his butt."

Our family extends heartfelt gratitude for all prayers and acts of kindness with special thanks to those at Trinity Health Center who loved and took good care of our buddy. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your charity of choice.
