Joseph Reuben Johnson, 95,  of Columbus, MS passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at Trinity Health Care, Columbus, MS.

A visitation will be Friday, July 3, 2020, from 10:00-11:00 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the Chapel with Bishop Eric Smith officiating. Interment will be in Johnson's Cemetery, Goodway, AL with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Johnson was born May 31, 1925, in Goodway, AL to the late Susie Agnes Gregson and John Claude Johnson.  He was a patriarch of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints. Mr. Johnson was in the United States Army and served in World War II. He was a veteran of 4 battles, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland Central Europe, and Germany. Mr. Johnson served with General Patton's Third Army following him to the battle of the Bulge and back. Also, while overseas he worked in CIA-transporting inmates. He worked at Redstone Arsenal helping launch the first satellite into orbit. Mr. Johnson retired with 42 years of civil service as a Traffic Management officer. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his wife- Arrie Olivia Gross Johnson and son- Dannie Johnson.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his daughters- Gwen (Mike) Lollar of Columbus, MS, and Joann (Bobby) Averett of Calera, AL; grandchildren- Toni (Barry) Sadler, Teresa (Wesley) Sanders, Tara (Jon) Brown, Phillip (Kaitlyn) Lollar, Adam (Kari) Lollar, Leah (Jayson) Woodard, and Dannie Joseph (Heather) Johnson; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and sister- Sarah Smith of Atmore, AL.

Pallbearers will be Luke Woodard, Jayson Woodard, Jon Russel Brown, Reid Brown, Dallas Sadler, and Dylan Sadler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Adam Lollar, Phillip Lollar, Ricky Crowder, Dr. Brett Brown, Trinity Personal Care, Steve Wallace, Tim Hudson, Dannie Joseph Johnson, Kaleb Johnson, Tyler Cuevas, VFW Riders, Jimmy Borland, Larry Bennett, and Dr. Ski.
