Joyce Laverne Shackelford, 71 of Columbus, MS passed away January 30, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – GT, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 6-8pm at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will be Friday, February 1, 2013 at 2pm at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS, Bro. Jimmy Ray officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mrs. Shackelford was born September 26, 1941 in Hot Springs, AR to the late Hubert and Cecil Smith Echols. She was a resident of Lowndes County for the last 40 yrs. and worked as a waitress at Barnhills. Mrs. Shackelford was a member of McBee Baptist Church, there she was involved in Womens Missions. She was also involved in Relay for Life. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by sister, Loretta Echols, brothers, H.C. Echols, Gene Echols and Bobby Echols. Mrs. Shackelford is survived by husband- David Shackelford, Columbus, MS, daughters-LaJena Suggs, Bloomington, IN, Rhonda (William) Brode, Memphis, TN, son- Justin Shackelford, Pasadena, TX, step-child-Kelly O'Mary, Denver, CO, siblings- Geneva Ellis, Dicky Echols, Ricky Echols, Janet Minton, Robby Echols and Julia Winfrey all of Hot Springs, AR, Mary Lewis, Little Rock, AR, Grandchildren-Brandie Baron and Brad Suggs both of Bloomington, IN, and Madison Brode, Memphis, TN, Great-grandchildren-Jillian Baron and Olivia Baron both of Bloomington, IN. Pallbearers will be Frankie Ellis, Danny Brown, Rodney Echols, Dicky Echols, Ricky Echols and Ashley Lyons.
