Katrina "Kay" Mae Ashton

Katrina “Kay” Mae Ashton, 64, of Columbus, MS, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026, at her residence.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 3:30 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Lowndes Funeral Home is entrusted with all arrangements.

Kay was born August 1, 1962, in Red Bay, Alabama, to the late George Earnon Barnes and Mae Brown Barnes. She attended Belmont High School and later MUW. Kay worked in retail sales at Belk for many years and retired in 2019. She was a seamstress and loved arts and crafts. Kay embraced the role of a traditional wife, mother, and grandmother. She excelled at all three. Kay was mostly a self-taught seamstress; she sewed for the public, including costumes for the Mississippi State University Dance Team. Kay’s true joy was in creating things for friends and family, as gifts to enjoy. A practice that sometimes frustrated her husband, Stephen. Blunt and honest to a fault, no one ever had to wonder where they stood with Kay. She had true compassion for those in need. Kay loved the Lord and faced her illness with courage and faith. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Kay is survived by her husband, Stephen A. Ashton; children, Stefanie (Jessen) Alford, Eric Ashton, Alex (Carsen) Ashton, Andrew (Carol) Ashton, and Ethan Ashton; grandchildren, Ashlyn Ashton, Kylan Weatherby, Jayden Weatherby, Evan Ashton, and Stephen Michael Ashton.

Pallbearers will be Eric Ashton, Alex Ashton, Andrew Ashton, Ethan Ashton, Jessen Alford, and Jayden Weatherby. Honorary Pallbearer will be Eli Moody.
