Virginia “Kaye” Atkins Robertson, age 77, of Millport, Alabama, entered into the presence of her Lord, surrounded by the love of her family, on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at her residence.
Born May 6, 1948, to Mayo Hobson Atkins and Estelle Pritchett Atkins, Kaye was the youngest of six children. From an early age, she carried herself with warmth, grace, and a quiet strength that would define her life.
On August 17, 1968, she married her childhood friend and the love of her life, Larry Edward Robertson. Together, they built a home rooted in faith, hospitality, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage of over 57 years was marked by loyalty, partnership, and shared purpose. Side by side, they served their church, their family, and their community — much of it quietly and behind the scenes, without seeking recognition.
Kaye was a true, classy Southern lady — gracious, steady, and deeply devoted to the people she loved. She took great pride in her work and carried herself with dignity and kindness in every setting. For 56 years, she practiced cosmetology. Her beloved shop, “Kaye’s Kut & Kurl,” served generations of families. To many, she was far more than a hairdresser; she was a confidante, encourager, and trusted friend.
Her faith in Christ was the foundation of her life. A lifelong member of Springhill Baptist Church, Kaye rarely missed a service until a recent illness prevented her from attending. She was deeply involved in church life — decorating the sanctuary beautifully for every season, organizing countless bridal and baby showers, helping prepare for events whether she was on the committee or not, and quietly tackling whatever needed to be done.
She and Larry worked together in countless unseen ways to support their church family. Kaye greeted newcomers warmly, made people feel at ease, and was always available with a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on. She prayed faithfully and often for others. If someone needed food, clothing, furniture, encouragement, or simply companionship, she found a way to help — never for attention, always out of love.
Her home reflected the same spirit. It was welcoming and filled with warmth; anyone was more than welcome at her table. Without fail, she prepared Sunday lunch for her family each week, believing deeply in keeping them bonded around the table. Family friends were always invited, and no one ever left her home hungry — for food or for love. She also had a creative gift for oil painting, sewing, floral arranging, decorating, and cooking, taking pride in doing things well and creating beauty with her hands.
Her love for people extended beyond her home and church into the wider community she cherished. Kaye was civic-minded and took pride in her town. She was a former member of the Millport Chamber of Commerce and, for many years, an election poll worker. She genuinely enjoyed those long days- visiting with neighbors, greeting familiar faces, and welcoming others as they came to vote. It was another way she quietly stayed connected to the people she cared about.
Kaye and Larry were grateful for the opportunities they had to travel together. They visited all 50 states in the United States. They were also blessed to see many places abroad, including several European countries, Russia, the Caribbean, Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, Greece, and her personal favorite, the Holy Land. Each journey was cherished with gratitude, but home and family were always her heart.
Above all, Kaye was the rock of her family and their soft place to fall. She loved with her whole heart — sacrificially, faithfully, and without reservation. She was a steady force in the lives of many and offered wise counsel gently and lovingly. Her presence brought peace. Her absence leaves an immeasurable space.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Dan Atkins and Joe Atkins; and her sisters, Patricia “Pat” McCullough and Martha Lee Kidder.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Larry Robertson; her daughter, Kimberly Robertson Merritt and husband Lee; her son, Chad Robertson and wife JoLynne; her grandchildren, Griffin Merritt, Hayes Merritt, Annalisa Robertson Younger and husband Caleb Younger, and Addison Robertson; her sister, Mary Ann Plyler; sisters-in-law Pat Atkins and Patsy Robertson; a special cousin, Nancy Cash Holman; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, church family, and dear friends whose lives she touched deeply.
Though our hearts are broken, we rest in the assurance that she is home with her Savior. Her life was a quiet testimony of faith, service, and steadfast love. To have known her was to be blessed.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 22nd, 2026, from 3:00-4:00 pm at Springhill Baptist Church, Millport, AL. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 pm with Bro. Drew Moore & Bro. Matthew Fancher officiating. Interment will be at Springhill Cemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Hayes Merritt, Caleb Younger, Wade McCullough, Philip Plyler, Bill Kidder, and Kenny Kidder.
Memorials may be made to Springhill Cemetery Fund (mailing address: 246 Springhill Road, Millport, AL 35576) or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to their Springhill Baptist Church family for their prayers, meals, and faithful support during this difficult time.
