Kerry M. Godwin, 56 of Ethelsville, AL passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS following a 50- year struggle with Type I diabetes.

A Memorial Service and celebration of Kerry's life will be held Sunday, October 16, 2016, at 4:00 PM at his nephew's home, at 804 Bains Rd, Ethelsville, AL  35461 with Bro. Jerry Hooper officiating and Rev. Eric Hollingsworth and Rev. Ricky Green assisting.  It was Kerry's request that all should come dressed in casual clothes.

Mr. Godwin was born March 3, 1960, to the late A.G. and Ora Bain Godwin and lived in the Ethelsville, AL area his entire life.  He was a graduate of New Hope High School and attended Mississippi State University in the co-op program with General Tire. Mr. Godwin was last employed for several years by R & D Maintenance. He was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Ethelsville, AL, where he served in various positions—Youth Counselor, Tabernacle Camp Meeting, Finance Chairman; he also published the monthly newsletter, prayer list and facilitated the card ministry.  Through his computer, Kerry started a resource ministry for his family, church, and community.  He enjoyed farming, raising and breeding registered sheep, and registered sheep dogs. Kerry was instrumental in the advancement of Tabernacle-Forrest Volunteer Fire Department and served as an EMT with the Lamar County Rescue Squad. In addition to his parents, Mr. Godwin was preceded in death by his brothers – Charles Godwin and Gerald Godwin; and his nephew-Jerry Godwin.

Mr. Godwin is survived by his sister – Linda Godwin, Ethelsville, AL and brother – Jim (Emily) Godwin, Ethelsville, AL; sisters-in-law-Jean Godwin, Ridgeland, MS and Joanne Godwin, Columbus, MS, and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Reed, Dr. Dunn, and Dr. Labrun and their staff, Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT's ICU nurses and staff,  along with many of Kerry's other doctors and their staff for their excellent care.
