Obituary

Lamar Jones, 74, of Columbus, MS passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at his residence.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 30, 2019, from 5-8 PM at New Salem Baptist Church fellowship hall. Funeral services will be Friday, May 31, 2019, at 10 AM at New Salem Baptist Church with Bro. Tommy Long officiating and Bro.  Mel Howton, Bro. Sammy Crawford and Bro. Tommy Long assisting.

Mr. Jones was born July 15, 1944, in Chatsworth, GA to the late Myrtle Mae and William Prince Jones. He is well known for his famous 4 th of July events and enjoyed playing golf. Mr. Jones taught the adult 3 Sunday school class and was a deacon at the church. He loved following his 3 grandson playing sports. Mr. Jones worked at Omnova as a color lab tech for 30+ years.  He was a Vietnam Era Vet in the United States Air Force.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones is preceded in death by his sister- Joyce (Donald) Hopper; sister in law- Sibyl McDaniel Andrews, Sallye (W.O.) McDaniel Wright, Johnnie (Ray) McDaniel Guy.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife- Connie McDaniel Jones, Caledonia, MS; son- Mark (Kandy) Jones, West Point, MS; siblings- Cecil (Peggy) Jones, Chatsworth, GA, Charlotte (Tommy) Long, Fayetteville, GA, Kathy (Jerry) Stafford, Lula, GA, Lona Southerland, Columbus, MS, Mary (Tommy) Spruill, Caledonia, MS and Bill (Marilynn) Andrews, Peachtree City, GA; grandkids- Will Jones, Bradley Jones, and Cy Jones, all of West Point, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Chad Long, Bruce Jones, Austin Feltman, Andrew Feltman, Scott Shuttleworth, Butch Reed, Steve West, and Greg Youngblood. Honorary pallbearers will be Max Waston, Nathan Watson, Eddie Rushing, Johnny Little, Ricky Phillips, Willie Murrah, Billy Hayes, Steve Hall, all deacons of New Salem Baptist Church- past and present, adult Sunday School Class 3, and Past Employees of Omnova.
