Larry Glenn Chappell, 74, of Steens, MS, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025, at Trinity Health Care in Columbus, MS.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Service will be Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. Sammy Crawford and Rev. Kent Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Steens, MS, with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.
Mr. Chappell was born August 12, 1950, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Alice Hitt Chappell and Charles D. Chappell. He was a BellSouth install repairman for many years. Mr. Chappell was a Veteran of the Mississippi Army National Guard. He served as Lowndes County Election Commissioner for District 1. Mr. Chappell loved tractors, especially driving the "Johnny Popper" John Deere Tractor for the kids at Fairview Baptist Church VBS, old trucks, golf carts, welding, fishing, driving for mission trips, and being active in church.
Mr. Chappell is survived by his wife- Martha Bell Chappell; siblings- Fred (Sue) Chappell, Joyce Vaughn, and June (Terry) Patrick; children- Susan (Michael) Akin, Byron (Kristi) Culpepper, and Caron (Michael) Byrd; grandchildren- Avy Akin, Katy Akin, Alex Akin, Lindsay Culpepper, Lexi Culpepper, Matthew Byrd, and Owen Byrd; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tim Butler, Tim Younger, Michael Byrd, Matthew Byrd, Owen Byrd, and Alex Akin. Honorary Pallbearers will be – Lowndes County District 1 Volunteer Fire Department, Fairview Security Team, and Sandy Sanders Sunday School Class.
Memorials may be made to the Lowndes County District 1 Fire Department or Fairview Baptist Church.
