Lawrence "Larry" Clemmons, 83, of Columbus, MS, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point, MS.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, MS. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 3:00 P.M. at Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, MS with Bro. Tommy Gillon and Rev. Gary Hodum officiating. Private Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Ethelsville, Alabama, with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.
Mr. Clemmons was born March 1, 1941, in Meridian, MS to the late Virgil Washington Clemmons and Beatrice Stewart Clemmons. The son of a grocer, Larry learned the art of customer service. He used those skills to work in numerous grocery stores throughout his career. After years of hard work with Coca-Cola Bottling Works as the Dr. Pepper Brand Manager, he became plant manager. In his spare time, he started his own butcher supply business and collected Coca-Cola memorabilia and antiques. He was also a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, MS.
In addition to his parents, Mr.Clemmons is preceded in death by his brothers- Virgil Washington "Sonny" Clemmons, Jr. and Dr. Robert Clemmons, and sister- Beverly Clemmons.
Mr. Clemmons is survived by his wife- Phyllis Hodum Clemmons; daughter- Rebecca Clemmons (Mike) Childs; son- Richard Lawrence Clemmons; daughter- Elizabeth Clemmons (Rusty) Greene; grandchildren- Christopher Lawrence Clemmons, Miller Andrew Greene, and William Henry Greene; brothers- Jimmy (Jane) Clemmons, Ricky (Rita) Clemmons, Tommy (Barbara) Clemmons, and Glenn (MaryAnn) Clemmons; sister- Jane Clemmons, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Miller Greene, Hank Greene, Rusty Greene, Randy Friesen, Kelly Kellum, and Tony Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Members of the Steve Smith Sunday School Class at Fairview Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
