Laymon Terrell Alexander, 86, of Steens, MS, passed away November 9, 2025 at his residence.
The visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 11:30 A.M., Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Steens First Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 A.M. at the church with Bro. Danny Avery officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS. Lowndes Funeral Home is entrusted with all arrangements.
Mr. Alexander was born on March 16, 1939 in Choctaw County, MS to the late Samuel Lagrone Alexander and Ruth Elizabeth Taylor Alexander. He attended Choctaw County High School and East Mississippi Community College. Before retiring in 2001, he worked as a tool and die maker for 43 years for United Technologies, American Bosch, and Johnson Electric. Also, he was a member of Steens First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years and loved attending church activities. Having his pilot's license, he enjoyed building airplanes even more than flying them. He also enjoyed gardening, bowling, camping, coon hunting, and restoring antique tractors.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters – Bernice Ray, Genise Bowie, Jean Weir, and Margaret Fondren.
Mr. Alexander is survived by his wife of 65 years - Hilda Simmons Alexander; daughters – Kimberly Dawn (Kirk) Wright and April Michelle (Erik) Lund; grandchildren – Zachary (Alexandra) Wright, Lauren (Josh) Verble, Hannah (Zack) Nerenberg, and Daniel Wright; and great grandchildren – Carter Howard, Evelyn Nerenberg, and Astrid Nerenberg.
Pallbearers will be Zachary Wright, Daniel Wright, Warren Conner, Wenn Dale Malone, Troy Garrett, and Kevin Clark. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lee Younger, Larry Shelton, John Beasley, Tommy Garrett, James Baswell, and Everett Pennington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Steens First Baptist Church, 40 Odom Road, Steens, MS 39766.
