Lewis Wilborne Barton, 95 of Columbus, MS passed away, Monday, October 21, 2013 at his residence. Visitation for Mr. Barton will be Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. A funeral service with military honors will follow at 12:00 PM with Bro. Steve Lammons and Dr. Bill Hurt, officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Barton was born November 19, 1917 to the late Bleacher L. & Martha E. Draper Barton in Fernbank, AL and lived in California before moving to Columbus, MS in 1995. Mr. Barton attended Auburn University, Auburn, AL and California State in Hayward, CA. He married Madguria Bolin Barton on August 7, 1944 in Jacksonville, FL and they had a great joyous marriage for 69 years. Mr. Barton retired in 1960 from the United States Navy after 20 years where he served in World War II and during the Korean Conflict. He also retired from the United States Postal Service after 15 years of service in 1977. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, the Fellowship Sunday School Class and taught preschoolers at church for 12 years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barton was preceded in death by his son - Charles Edwin Barton. Mr. Barton is survived by his wife of 69 years - Madguria Bolin Barton, Columbus, MS, son - Steven Barton, Cameron, MT and ex-daughter in law - Carol Atthowe Romero - Hawaii, brothers - Travis Bardon, Cullman, AL and Rufus Bardon, Vernon, AL and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Harold Barton, Eddie Barton, Truman Reeves, Greg Bardon and Dale Brewer.
