Lonnie Hoyt Jackson, 82 of Columbus, MS passed away Sunday, March 29, 2020, at his residence.

A family funeral service will be Thursday, April 2, 2020, at 11:00 AM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kenny Gardner officiating, friends may view at www.lowndesfuneralhome.net. Interment will be at North Mississippi Veterans Cemetery in Kilmichael, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mr.  Jackson was a proud veteran who served over 35 years in both the US Navy and US Air Force.  He was a staunch patriot.  He also served many more years as a Fire Fighter.  Starting out as an EMT he worked his way through the ranks becoming Deputy Fire Chief in Mt. Prospect, IL and Fire Chief of Besenville, IL.  He was active in the International Fire Inspectors Association, taught at the National Fire Academy and worked on the special Space Shuttle Recovery Teams around the world. He was dedicated to enhancing public safety and Fire prevention throughout the world.  Mr. Jackson was a member of Columbus Christian Center, Columbus, MS.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife – Carol Marie Henrich Jackson, Columbus, MS; daughters – Kimberly (Mark) Tobias, Kelly Wood, Kathy Flood, Karen (John) Meury, Kristen (Greg) Axtell, and Kendra (Michael) Mask; grandchildren – Katie, Rebecca, Andrew, Michael, Christopher, Brian, Rachael, Allyson, John Jr., Amanda, Isabella, Jackson, Gabriella, Alexander, and Christian; and 10 great-grandchildren.
