Louis Cecil Newman, 82, of Columbus, MS died Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - GT, Columbus, MS . He was born on September 26, 1932 to Floyd and Rhonda Linley Newman in Monroe County, MS. He was a charter member of Victory Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Newman was employed with Johnson Tombigbee for 26 years as supervisor and Baldor Electric for 13 years as a forklift operator, retiring in 1994. He loved fishing and woodworking and he loved the outdoors. Mr. Newman was a dedicated church member and sponsor of Victory Free Will Baptist Church and Victory Christian Academy. Visitation was Thursday, November 06, 2014 from 6-8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home and Friday, November 7, 2014 from11 AM- 1 PM. Funeral services will be Friday, November 7, 2014 at 1 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS with Bro. Al Hamm officiating and Bro. Danny Williams assisting. Interment will be in Egger Cemetery, Caledonia, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. In addition to his parents, Mr. Newman is preceded in death by his daughter - Mollie Ann Whitehead and brother - Alphus Newman. Mr. Newman is survived by his wife - Johnnie Mae (Bailey) Newman, sisters - Selma (Larry) Gilmore of Columbus, MS and Fay Smith of Hamilton, MS, brothers - Leonard (Bobbie Ann) Newman and James Newman both of Columbus, MS, two grandchildren - Lesley Ann (Dustin) Vail of Liberty, AL and Lindsey (Dillon) Beard of Columbus, MS, and two great grandchildren - Jax and Elliana Vail. Pallbearers will be Charlie Johnson, Robert Malone, Bubba Wright, James Sheperd, and Dillon Beard. Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of Victory Free Will Baptist Church, Dr. Stennett, Dr. Reed, Royce Gilmore, Larry Gilmore, Robbie Wilson and Dustin Vail.
