Louise Shelton Cooper, 99 of Columbus, MS passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Windsor Place Nursing and Rehabilitation, Columbus, MS.
Visitation will be Friday, March 17, 2017, from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A graveside service will follow at Friendship Cemetery at 4:30 PM with Rev. Jesse Ray officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Cooper was born September 25, 1917, to the late James Reed and Clemmie Elizabeth Ferguson Shelton in Liberty, AL. Mrs. Cooper was a loving mother and grandmother, who dearly loved her family, and was adored by them. She was a charter member of 1st Assembly of God Church, Columbus, MS, where she taught children in Sunday School for many years, and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed traveling, gardening in her flower beds and being outdoors. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years– Robert Redus Cooper, four brothers – Young Shelton, Leslie Shelton, Ervin Shelton and Ray Shelton and her sister – Hilda Shelton Burns.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by her daughter – Shirley (Calvin) Sooter, Linden, NC and son – Reed (Donna) Cooper, Columbus, MS; 6 grandchildren – Tracee (Tom) Pauly, Lithia, FL, Melissa Cooper, Colorado Springs, CO, Angie (Nick) Darnell, Linden, NC, Erik (Treva) Sooter, Spring Lake, NC, Christee Holbrook, Columbus, MS and Jared Cooper, Birmingham, AL; 10 great-grandchildren. – Jake and Tyler Pauly, Lithia, FL, Brandon (Jamie) Wilson, Linden, NC and Amanda Wilson, Linden, NC, Madison, Megan and Morgan Holbrook, Columbus, MS, Anna-Claire Cooper, Colorado Springs, CO, Christopher Sooter and Kayla Sooter , Spring Lake, NC; one great-great-granddaughter – Caroline Wilson, Linden, NC.
Pallbearers will be Tom Pauly, Jake Pauly, Tyler Pauly, Ken Holbrook, Jared Cooper, Ken Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Shelton, Kenneth Burns, Ronnie Shelton, Phil Shelton, Dewayne Burns and Darrell Shelton.
A special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Windsor Nursing Home. Especially the B-side nursing staff and the CNAs that cared for her with love.
