Obituary

Louise Lowry Lawrence, 85, of Ethelsville, AL passed away February 11, 2022 at Trinity Healthcare Center in Columbus, MS.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Tabernacle Cemetery, Ethelsville, AL, with Carol Lambert officiating with Lowndes Funeral Home Columbus, MS, directing.

Louise was born March 10, 1936 to the late Kathryn Runge and Horace Carlyle Lowry, in Washington, DC and lived there until she was 5 years old. As a child she lived 18 months in TN while her Dad was working In Knoxville. Then grew up in Forest, MS with her Mother, sisters, and maternal grandparents. Her Dad died when she was 12 years old. Louise met David Allen Lawrence while she was attending college at Belhaven University and he was at Millsaps College. She obtained her Master of Science and Social Work degree from Tulane University. For many years she and David lived in TN. Louise worked as a social worker at Holston United Methodist Home for Children in Greeneville, TN for 35 years while being a minister's wife. Several times Louise flew to the Philippines to assist in completion of adoptions. She was a loving, gentle, kind, giving person. She was loyal to church and to her family.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband Rev. David A. Lawrence, son Joseph David Lawrence, sisters Dr. Lee Lowry Neilan and Dr. Carla Lowry, Sister-in-law Jeanne Atkins and Brother-in-law Billy Lawrence.

She is survived by her daughter- Helen Louise (Larry) Freeman of TN; son- Steven Allen (Judy) Lawrence of FL; two granddaughters- Kara Louise Sheppard of Washington, Megan Leigh Freeman of TN; two grandsons- Nick Lawrence, Jonathan Lawrence of TN; one great-granddaughter- Ava Sheppard of Washington; brother-in-laws- George Neilan, Johnny Lawrence and Danny Atkins; niece - Joyce Neilan; nephews- Dr. Ed Neilan , Dr. Bob Neilan.

Pallbearers will be Tims Dowdle, Charles Speed, Steve Stokes, Larry Manzolillo, Scott Lawrence, and Caleb Youngblood.

Honorary Pallbearers and special friends are Jim Godwin, Alvin Trapp, Bobby Bain, Paul and Linda Atkins, Alan and Jan Youngblood, Matt Youngblood, Terry and June Patrick, Gail Betts, Tabernacle Homemakers Club, WMU ladies of First Baptist Church of Columbus, MS, members of Tabernacle United Methodist Church and Andrews Chapel Church.
