Louise Ivy Winters, 99, of Columbus, MS passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Collegeview Personal Care Home, Columbus, MS. Visitation for Mrs. Winters will be Friday, January 9, 2015 at 2:00 PM in Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 PM with Bro. Bud Gordon officiating and his father Bro. Prentiss Gordon assisting. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Winters was born July 2, 1915 to the late Dr. Robert Louis Ivy and Sue Helen Golden Ivy in Louisville, MS. She was the first born of 10 children. In 1932 Mrs. Winters graduated from Louisville High School where she was the Class President. She then graduated from Blue Mountain College where she received her bachelor's degree. Upon graduating Mrs. Winters was immediately employed with Ackerman High School as their business education teacher. In 1939 she married Everette Louis Winters and they raised 7 children. Mr. & Mrs. Winters founded "The Columbus Handle Co.," located in Columbus for 30+ years. After Mr. Winters death in 1964, Mrs. Winters worked very hard to provider her family and disabled son, Buddy. She succeeded. Mrs. Winters was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. and the So and Sew circle for more than 50 years. The last six years of her life were spent in residence at College View Personal Care, Columbus, MS. She was beloved by so many. In addition to her parents Mrs. Winters was preceded in death by her husband - Everette Louis Winters, sons - Robert "Buddy" Winters and Charles Franklin Winters. Mrs. Winters is survived by her children - Ivy June Winters (Ron) - Peterson, Linda Winters-Lavender, John (Emma) Winters, Susan (Jerry) Winters Cowgill and Doug (Cindy) Winters, sister - Virginia Dekker, granddaughters - Haley (Jeremy) Jones, Patricia Winters and Melissa Winters, great-grandchildren - Cameron Jones and Mackenzie Jones.
