Margaret Hinds, 80, of Columbus, MS, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle.
The visitation will be Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A graveside service will be Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, Mississippi.
Mrs. Hinds was born March 7, 1943, in Augusta, GA to the late James Lester Watson, Jr. and Martha Catherine Sides Watson. Her father was in the Army and served in the China Burma India theater and her mother returned to her family home in Fairfield, Alabama. Later, when she was twelve years old, the family moved to California. In June of 1966, she met her future husband in Alameda, CA, while he was serving in the Navy. They were married on August 6, 1966. While in the Navy, they lived in San Diego, CA, Washington, D.C., and Hawaii. Since then, they have lived in San Diego, CA, and Bogalusa, LA. In December 1981, they moved to Columbus, MS.
Mrs. Hinds was a dedicated mother, who loved being at home with her children. She worked at a youth sports writer while they lived in Bogalusa, LA. She was a passionate sports fan. She was an avid Alabama football fan, as well as a fan of the Oakland Raiders. Then there was baseball. She would even miss school to watch the World Series games on TV. In later years, she became an Atlanta Braves fan and many family events were planned around Braves baseball games. She also loved watching the boys participating in sports and was always present at their games.
Mrs. Hinds is survived by her husband – Lucious Berry Hinds; sons – Russell Hinds, and James (Angela) Hinds; grandchildren – Sarah (Garrett) Stancil, C.J. (Leah) Hinds, and Scotty Hinds; step-grandchild – Grace Fannin; great grandchild – A.J. Hinds; brother – James (Susan) Watson, III; niece – Jessica Watson; and nephew – Robin Watson.
Pallbearers are Scotty Hinds, Garrett Stancil, Columbus Jones, Robin Watson, and Jamie Simpson. Honorary pallbearers are the Baptist Golden Triangle Hospital Emergency Room Nurses and Doctors.
