Marilyn Jo Varner, age 72, of Columbus, MS passed away Monday, September 3, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at 3:00 PM at Life Church, Columbus, MS with Bro. Jody Andrews officiating. Lowndes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Varner was born on August 22, 1946, in Helena, MT, to the late Joseph Black, Jr. and Ruth Haugh Black. She was a Bible school quiz coach and took two teams to regionals. Mrs. Varner was faithfully and actively involved in her church and served in various capacities. She loved to crochet and loved to give gifts to people. Mrs. Varner enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren and other and also enjoyed watching movies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son- Robert F. Lain, III and one grandchild.

Mrs. Varner is survived by her husband- Robert "Bob" Varner of Columbus, MS; daughter- C.J. (Jody) Andrews of Columbus, MS; brothers- David (Tana) Black, Douglas Black, and Joseph Black, III; sister- Susan (Greg) Houser; 3 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
