Obituary

Mary Rodgers Faglie, long-time resident of Columbus, passed peacefully in her sleep at Trinity Personal Care on November 17th with her daughter, Marybeth, by her side.

Mrs. Faglie was born in Malone, Florida to Edwin A. Rodgers and Gladys Garrett Rodgers on February 21, 1925. She graduated valedictorian from Malone High School during the height of WWII and began working at the Marianna Army Air Field.  She relocated to Jacksonville, Florida after the war ended and joined the civil service force at Jacksonville Naval Air Station. There she met her future husband George W. Faglie, Jr. and they were married in 1949.

They relocated many times over the years while his work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers took them all over the southeast. The Faglies settled in Columbus in 1977, making it their long-term home. They could always be seen working in their yard where she was a 40-year member of Northaven Woods Garden Club, serving as president seven times over the years. She took great pride in having won "Yard of the Month" twice over the years. She also belonged to Terra Firma of Columbus and served with the Master Gardeners for many years.

They became members of Columbus First United Methodist Church when moving to Columbus, and joined the Lewis Fellowship Sunday School Class. She returned to college and at 54 years old completed a degree in Journalism from MUW, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

She donated over 10,000 hours to the Pink Ladies Organization. Most of those hours were in Columbus at Baptist Hospital.

Mrs. Faglie was preceded in death by both of her parents, three of her children, George Rodger Faglie, Michael Alexander Faglie and Gladys Ann Faglie, and her devoted husband, George(Dub). She is survived by one daughter, Marybeth(MB) Strickland and one granddaughter, Lindsey Ann Woodward(Franklin) of Atlanta.

A local Celebration of Life will be held on what would have been her 101st birthday in February of 2026.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Helping Hands or your local food bank of choice
