Mary Katherine Brewer Foster, better known as Kay, Kate, or Mama Kay by friends and family passed away on March 22, 2017, at the age of 90 in Columbus, MS.  She was born in Lowndes County, MS on June 4, 1926, to the late Percy Brewer and Sarah Augusta Lipsey.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017, at  4:00 PM at Memorial Gardens of Columbus, MS located on Frontage Rd with the Rev. Bob Wilbur and The Rev. John Richards officiating, Lowndes Funeral Home and Crematory of Columbus, MS directing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gene Foster, her sister, Sarah Claire Brewer Shelton, Her brother, Percy Baxter "Bud" Brewer, Jr., all of Columbus, MS, a nephew and a great-niece.

Kate was an excellent mother, a ceramist, cook, seamstress, quilter, lover of plants, orchids and especially trees.  She and her husband were founding members of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Columbus, MS.  For many years she worked at The Diamond Shop in Columbus and later assisted her husband in his shoe store, Gene's Shoe Store, in Aliceville, AL.

Family members include her sons – C.E. "Sonny" (Pell) Foster  of Rocky Mount, NC, Charles Wade (Doris)  Foster of Baytown, TX and John Edward Foster living at home and who was Mama Kate's loving caretaker, Grandchildren are Katie (Ismael) Reyna of Baytown, TX and Jason (Patricia) Foster of Keller, TX.  Survivors also include her great-grandchildren, Katherine Reyna and Christopher Reyna of Baytown, TX and Gavin Foster of Keller, TX, Her sister-in-law, Sadie Brewer of Columbus, MS, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and her friend, Shirley (Jerry) Modell  of Gainesville, FL., whom she considered the daughter she never had.

The family extends a "special" thank you to Camellia Hospice, to Molly and Compton "Red" Shelton for their devotion to his aunt, and to Candy and Mark Stokes for their special friendship with John.
