Obituary

Mary McDill Mary "Avalene" Shaw McDill, 93 of Columbus, MS passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 at her residence. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 6 - 9 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 2 PM at Victory Tabernacle Church, Columbus, MS with Bro. Granville Wiggins officiating and Rev. Chester Shaw and BJ Rutherford assisting. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mrs. McDill was born October 25, 1918 in Pickens County, AL to the late Troy and Mattie Woolbright Shaw. She was manager of Ruben's Fish Ponds for 13 years before her retirement in 1977. Mrs. McDill was a member of Victory Tabernacle Adult Sunday School, PLA, R.S.V.P. and Eastbrook Activities. She was well known for her exceptional gardening skills, especially her tomatoes, collards, and flowers. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McDill is preceded in death by her husband - Selvin McDill; daughter - Jeweline Homan; son - Ray McDill; sons-in-law - Bud Homan and Earl Martin; granddaughters - Magen Elaine Hughes and Jackie Marie McDill; grandson - Harold Ray McDill; brothers - Wilford Shaw and Talmadge Shaw; and sister - Lavada Byars. Mrs. McDill is survived by her children - Laine Martin-Wilson (Joe Wilson), Columbus, MS; Christine (Danny) Madison, Columbus, MS; daughter-in-law/daughter - Jackie McDill Taylor, Fayette, AL; sister - Mary Nell (Billy) Parker, Liberty, AL; brothers - Winfred Shaw, Oxford, MS; G.B. (Dean) Shaw, Columbus, MS; 17 grandchildren - Charlotte Hall (Jerry) McDill, their 4 children and 7 grandchildren; BJ Rutherford (Lucky); Nelda (Thomas) Whaley; Mary L. Spain and her 2 children; Renee Wright, her 3 children and 6 grandchildren; Debra (Mark) Chain and their 2 children; Troy Kirkley and his 3 children; Jonathan (Charlie Ann) Martin and their 5 children; Kim (Randy) Price and their 4 children and 1 grandchild; and Tiffney (Ron ) Keene; daughter grafted by choice - Mary Traywick; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Pallbearers will be grandsons - BJ Rutherford, Troy Kirkley, Jonathan Martin, Mark Chain, Randy Price, Jeffery Hall, Troy Brown, Jamie Stokes, Brandon Allen, and Christopher Gurley. Honorary Pallbearers will be remaining grandchildren, past and present members of Victory Tabernacle Church, Rev. John and Gloria Rhoades, Dr. Kim, Dr. Brown, Gentiva Hospice Staff, friends, staff, and residents at East Brook Apartments, and members of First Independent Methodist Church, N Lehmberg Road, Columbus, MS.
