Obituary

Mary Lester Phillips Medley was born June 7, 1929, to the late Oliver and Vera Windle Phillips, Sr. and passed away June 27, 2019, at The Windsor Place at the age of 90.

Visitation was at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS on Saturday, June 29, 2019, from 6-8 PM. A graveside service will be at Hebron Methodist Church Cemetery in Cochrane, AL on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at 2:30 PM with Bro. Steve Lammons officiating.

Mary married her high school sweetheart, Edward A. Medley, Sr., October 31, 1947, and traveled with his as part of the Air Force Base for 20 years and was stationed in Georgia, Germany, Canada, Washington and finally retired at Columbus Air Force Base in 1967.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband of 50 years, Edward A. Medley, Sr., infant daughter-Mary; sisters-Frances Miller, Marie Davison, Patricia Powe; and granddaughter- T. J. Parson.

Survivors include sons- Edward Medley, Jr., Columbus, MS and Gary Medley (Teresa), Danville, AL; daughter- Marian Parson (Tony), Steens, MS; brother- Oliver Phillips, Jr (Helen) Columbus, MS; brother-in-law- Robert Upton (Carol), Livingston, Texas; grandchildren- Tracy Bryant, Ginnie Cody, Laura Hoffman (Brain), Amy Herron (Cole) and Jeffery Davis (Tracy); 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mary was a member of Hebron Methodist Church, Cochrane, AL., and attended the Air Force Base Chapel, Columbus, MS. she was a pink lady at BMH for many years and worked with the Red Cross including two trips to New York City in 2001 following 9/11. She also volunteered at nursing homes. Mary loved bowling and participated in the Senior League on Thursday mornings until the age of 87. She also loved Bingo, tournament bowling and traveling. She retired in 1991 after 15 years working for Besco as a bookkeeper, she also was a bookkeeper for 69 Miling CO., East Lowndes Water Assoc., and Sawan Seed Co.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A special thank you to her brother,  Oliver, nephew Ken, Tammy, Lory, Nicole and all the staff at The Windsor Place for all the care and love for her during her last years.

Pallbearers will be Jeffery Davis, Cole Herron, Greg Phillips, Ken Phillips, Ronnie Blakney, and Carson Mascarenas. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at The Windsor Place.
