Obituary

Mary Ann Johnson Reed, 90, of Columbus, MS passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Flowers Hospital, Dothan, AL.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 6, 2017, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow Friday, October 6, 2017, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. Interment will be at Clear Springs Cemetery, Maben, MS.

Mrs. Reed was born September 19, 1927, to the late Blake Johnson and Minnie Lee Kilpatrick Johnson in Maben, MS. She was the ninth child of twelve. Mrs. Reed and her late husband, Everette Reed, moved to Columbus in 1955 and remained residents until she moved to Dothan, AL in May of 2017 to be near her son. She made her faith decision to follow Christ early in life. Mrs. Reed served as a Sunday School teacher, especially to children, for many years. Missions education for children was one of her special loves. Mrs. Reed was a long- time member of First Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. She worked at United Technologies for 40 plus years and retired as an inspector. In her retired years, Mrs. Reed dedicated time to serving on the benevolent committee of First Baptist Church "Love in Deed". She loved her neighbors and spending time with them playing Rook. Mrs. Reed enjoyed baking and cooking for people. She loved to plant flowers and do garden work. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband- Joseph Everette Reed.

Mrs. Reed is survived by her son- James (Jane) Reed of Dothan, AL; daughter- Lynda (Joe) Wiggins of Millport, AL; grandchildren- Hye (Brian) Hudson of Trinity, FL, David (Hope) Reed of Muscle Shoals, AL, and Amanda (Brent) Taylor of Cottonwood, AL; great-grandchildren- Tifton Coleman, Michael Coleman, Aliee Reed, Graham Reed, Addison Reed, and Reed Taylor; two sisters- Kathleen Burgess of Merritt Island, FL, and Lorene Thaggard of Pontotac, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Tifton Coleman, Michael Coleman, Graham Reed, Phillip Seawright, Tommy Seawright, and Hunter Johnson.

Memorials may be made to Crossing Building Fund, First Baptist Church, 202 7 th Street North, Columbus, MS 39701.
