Mrs. Mattie Lorene Hayes, 69 of Steens, MS passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at her residence. Visitation will be Thursday, March 28, 2013 from 12:00 - 1:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A graveside service will be Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Lamar County, AL with Bro. Ed Knox officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mrs. Hayes was born October 14, 1943 in Lamar County, AL to the late Alvin Andrew and Bertha Beard Sims. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and enjoyed quilting, gardening, farming, fishing and raising chickens. Mrs. Hayes is preceded in death by husband, Clyde Hayes. Mrs. Hayes is survived by son, Michael (Kari) Hayes, daughter, Pixie Hayes both of Steens, MS, and 5 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bradley Courtney, Maurice Lippman, Roy Baldwin, Spence Wallingford, Alan Merrigan and Bob Carruthers. Honorary pallbearers will be Beloved members of Antioch Baptist Church and Staff of Gentiva Hospice.
