Mattie Louise Lavender Mattie Louise Lavender, 87 of Caledonia, MS passed away, Friday, January 27, 2012 at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, MS. Visitation for Mrs. Lavender was Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 6 – 8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A graveside service was Monday, January 30, 2012 at 11AM in Egger Cemetery, Caledonia, MS with Bro. Ben Butler officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mrs. Lavender was born March 17, 1924 to the late Riley and Lillie Jones Smallwood in Berry, AL. She moved to Lowndes County 64 years ago from Millport, AL. Mrs. Lavender worked as a waitress at Bell Cafe of Columbus for 35 years. She enjoyed gardening, especially working with her flowers. Mrs. Lavender loved being with her friends and family especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and her daughter and one son-in-law. She was of the Church of Christ faith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lavender is preceded in death by her brothers – Travis Smallwood, G.W. Smallwood and sisters – Bell Kelly and Pat Evans. Mrs. Lavender is survived by her daughter – Shirley (Jack) Thomas, Caledonia, MS, Sisters – Dorothy Steger, Turkey Creek, KY and Benia Buchanan, Berry, AL,Brother - Paul Smallwood, Berry, AL, Grandchildren – Theresa (Sam) Darnell, Cecelia (Stephen) Honnoll, Great-Grandchildren – Stephen Johnson, Samantha Barksdale, William Darnell, Lawrence Darnell, Thomas Honnoll, Anthony Honnoll, Great-Great-Grandchildren – Kayden Barksdale, Landon Barksdale, Mackenzie Barksdale and Madison Barksdale. Pallbearers will be Stephen Honnoll, Thomas Honnoll, Stephen Johnston, Anthony Honnoll, William Darnell and Lawrence Darnell; Honorary Pallbearers will be Brenda & Walt Willis and all her friends at Willis Plaza.
