Mayo Ruffin, 87, of Northport, AL passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019, at D.C.H. Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2 PM in the chapel with Bro. Steve Lammons officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Ruffin was born May 23, 1932 in Pickens County, AL to the late Mamie Burgess Ruffin Dorrah and Horace Newt Ruffin. Mr.Ruffin married the love of his life Mrs. Betty Jean Wallace in Columbus, MS on May 8, 1964. He was a member of many clubs including Silvertan Club, Lions Club, Kiawana's Club, New Hope Service Club, Air Base Community Council, 12 Man Supper Club, American Legion, VFW, and the Chittlerling Club. Mr. Ruffin enjoyed spending time with his family, watching car racing, going camping, and was an avid Auburn fan. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Columbus, MS where he worked for Cash Distributing as a Sales Manager and retired after 48 years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ruffin is preceded in death by his son- Billy Fowler, and sister- Tiny Shelton.
Mr. Ruffin is survived by his wife of 55 years Betty Jean Wallace Ruffin of Northport, AL; daughters- Mitzi (Mike) Carter of Northport, AL, and Karen Conklan of Columbus, MS; grandchildren- Christy Brackin, Len Bracken, Matthew (Melanie) Carter, and Melissa Carter; 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Carter, Wes Shelton, and Doug Shelton. Honorary pallbearers will be Melissa Carter, Len Brackin, and Christy Brackin.
