Michael Don "Mike" Shelton passed away Friday, February 14, 2025, at his residence.

The visitation will be on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Lowndes Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., with burial in Friendship Cemetery.

Mr. Shelton was born May 17, 1951, to the late Lillie "Tiny" Ruffin and Charles A. Shelton in Columbus, Mississippi. He lived all of his life in Columbus graduating from Lee High School in 1970 and East Mississippi Community College at Scooba, MS. Mr. Shelton was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He was a partner with his father in Shelton Construction Company which built custom homes throughout Columbus and Lowndes County. His employment also included Director of Operations for Baptist Golden Triangle Hospital; Project Supervisor for West Construction; and Director of Operations for Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville.

During his career Mr. Shelton served as President of Mississippi Association of Hospital Engineers; the Association of Hospital Engineers' international committee of Building Codes and Standards; Chief of Rural Hill Volunteer Fire Department for twenty years, and board member for EMCC Foundation.

Mr. Shelton enjoyed being an avid hunter and fisherman and a past member of Columbus Bass Club. As a renowned cook, he was a member of the 12-Man Supper Club; member of New Hope Exchange Club; and member of Steens Supper Club. In his garden, he loved growing tomatoes, peppers, turnip greens, and especially banana peppers and broccoli for his granddaughters. Cultivating zinnias and yellow roses produced some of the prettiest and brightest flowers which he also shared with Deb's social functions. After retiring, he loved mowing the yard and making it look just so; playing with his beloved Boston Terrier, Judy3; and tending his bird feeders. A special treat was enjoying coffee with the morning group at Hardee's.

Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife, Deb Shelton; sons, Wes (Angela) Shelton and Doug (Allison Simmons) Shelton; granddaughters, Lillie Grace Shelton, Wesley Caroline Shelton, and Emi Simmons; sister, Gloria (Keith) Bobitt, brother-in-law, Dr. Greg (Nell) Earwood.
