Mildred Atkins Hudson

Mildred Atkins Hudson, 87 of Columbus, MS passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Oktibbeha County Hospital, Starkville, MS.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 17, 2010 from 1:30 ? 2:30 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 17, 2010 at 2:30 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ben Yarber officiating. Interment will be in Ethelsville Baptist Church Cemetery, Ethelsville, AL.

Mrs. Hudson was born December 19, 1922 in Ethelsville, AL to the late Lewis Atkins and Ada Key Youngblood Atkins. She had lived in the Columbus, MS area for the past 58 years having moved from Ethelsville, AL and was a member of Canaan Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. She was also a member of Alanon helping many men and women toward a life of sobriety, loved Alabama football, Southern Gospel music and loved watching her granddaughters play softball. Mrs. Hudson helped her husband at Mid South Income Tax and loved being with her grandchildren. She retired from First Columbus National Bank in 1983 with 32 years of service. Mrs. Hudson is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John Ellis Hudson.

Mrs. Hudson is survived by her daughters, Janice Hudson Burris, Columbus, MS; Sherry Hudson Shackelford, Columbus, MS; brothers, Donald (Ann) Atkins, Columbus, MS; Orman (Agnes) Atkins, Reform, AL; sister, Ann Atkins, New Hope, MS; sister-in-law, Betty Hudson, Caledonia, MS; brother-in-law, Edward (Elizabeth) Hudson, Ethelsville, AL; grandchildren, Ivy Burris (Justin) Harris, Amy Burris, Leah Shackelford, Laura Shackelford, Laura Shackelford, Layna Shackelford, Logan Shackelford, Logan Shackelford, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; special friends, Candye Stokes, other daughter; Lydia Seroux, other daughter, Wynell Koenigsberger, devoted friend, Ophelar Jones, friend, Wayne Doyle, ?my friend?.

Pallbearers will be Justin Harris, Logan Shackelford, Wayne Doyle, Kevin Doyle, Randy Stacy and Wayne Seroux. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Perkins, Martha Spencer, Paul and Rachel McGee, Marie Mattison, Pat and Barbara Shackelford, Cindy Stacy, Joan Moore, Mark Stokes, Eula Harless, Sandra Slayton, Carrington Nursing Center Staff, Dr. Steven C. Brandon and Dr. Susan Taylor.
