Mitchell Drew Johnson, 40, of Columbus, MS passed away Monday, June 5, 2017, at his residence.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, June 11, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Chris Herring officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.

Drew was born on October 10, 1976, in Columbus, MS to Larry Mitchell Johnson and the late Lina Christine "Chris" Crouse Johnson both of Columbus, MS. Drew was a 1995 graduate of New Hope High School and was one amazing baseball player for the New Hope Trojans. He won All State, All District and All Region during his years of playing. After graduation, Drew attended Meridian Community College. Shortly after, he was drafted by the MLB Cleveland Indians. Drew's mother passed away May 25, 1991, when he was only eleven years old. This would be hard for any child to handle. Some will say that he never quite recovered from her passing. Drew was well known and loved by his family and many friends that he had made throughout his lifetime. Drew's life may have been cut short, but he will always be remembered. In addition to his mother, Drew is preceded in death by his grandfather Neburn "Bud" Johnson, and grandparents Wade and Pauling Crouse.

Drew is survived by his daughter- Abby Johnson of Columbus, MS; father- Larry Mitchell Johnson of Columbus, MS; sister- Pamela Beamer of Columbus, MS; grandmother- Jimmie Nell Johnson of Columbus, MS; aunts- Wynn Luecke, Leah Wright, and Doris Benge; and uncles- Jimmy Lewis Johnson and Nebern Dwight Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Conn, Brad Braddock, Chris Herring, Chris Wright, Jep Cole and John Dale.
