He enlisted into the United States Army with Company C Third Infantry battalion out of Folk Polk, LA in May of 1969. He was deployed to Vietnam later that fall and landed in Vietnam on his 21st birthday. During his tour in Vietnam he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. He made lifelong friends with his coworkers that affectionately called him Nellie Fox and the staff at Gary's Pawn and Gun.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, grilling, photography, everything ammo and camo. He loved Jesus, all things MSU, America and the US Navy Blue Angels. He thrived on going to see the Blue Angels home show in Pensacola Beach, FL and said nothing beats watching them than from the show center.
