Norman Arthur Cormier, 77 of Columbus, MS passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS.
Visitation will be Tuesday May 30, 2017, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A memorial service will be Wednesday May 31, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Bro. Mitch McWilliams officiating.
Mr. Cormier was born April 10, 1940, to the late Leander and Annette Parradis Cormier in Rumford, Maine and moved to Columbus, MS 35 years ago. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Yellowstone. Mr. Cormier was a 1959 graduate of Rumford High School, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maine – Farmington, then went on to receive his Bachelor of Science and Master Degrees at the University of Maine – Orono. Mr. Cormier was a certified Physical Education Specialist and Health Instructor. He developed an adaptive physical education program for severely handicapped individuals. Mr. Cormier was Head Ski Coach and assistant football, basketball, and trainer. He was an avid jogger and competed in two Boston marathons and many A.A.U. road races. In 2001, Mr. Cormier retired from Weyerhaeuser where he was employed for 26 years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cormier was preceded in death by his sisters – Jeanette C. Glaude and Lucille C. Murphy; brother – Robert Cormier.
Mr. Cormier is survived by his wife of 31 years – Sarah Elizabeth King Veazey Cormier, Columbus, MS; daughters – Dianne M. Cormier and Paula C. Moran (Richard) Reiff; son – John N (Patty) Cormier; step-sons – Terrell "Terry" (Lisa) Veazey, Jr., Carl (Allison) Veazey and Mark Veazey; sister – Anita C. Ryder; 4 grandchildren and 5 step grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be the B-Team at Weyerhaeuser, Columbus, MS.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
