Obituary

Peggy Jean Copeland Moore, 86, died Monday, February 21, 2022, at her residence in Starkville.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, followed by a life celebration service at 11:00 a.m. An interment service will follow at Memorial Gardens in Columbus, MS.

Peggy was born in Atwood, Tennessee in 1935. She married Archie Lee Moore in 1954 and spent many years as an Air Force wife living in places like Amarillo, TX, Spokane, WA, Austin, TX and Limestone, ME. After Archie's retirement from military service in 1971, they settled in Columbus and remained there until 2015 when they moved to Starkville.

During her time in Columbus, Peggy worked at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle as an administrative assistant in the Dietary Department. Peggy was a long-time member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she served as a tenured Sunday School teacher, was a member of the adult choir, and helped serve many meals to her church family. After moving to Starkville, Peggy became an active member of First Presbyterian Church (EPC) where she continued to participate in chancel choir, volunteered on the fellowship team and helped initiate a new women's Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Emmaus Community.

Peggy enjoyed many activities throughout her life, particularly travel, reading, doing crossword puzzles, cooking for family and watching sports activities involving her children and grandchildren – especially baseball.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with loved ones, recently moving to Starkville to live among four generations of family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Archie Lee Moore, her parents, Harlan and Eddie Copeland and three older brothers.

She is survived by her daughter Marquita (Jim) Beaty of Starkville; son Mark (Michelle) Moore of Murfreesboro, TN; sister-in-law Joyce Trevathan of Franklin, TN; grandchildren Meredith (Will) Martin of Starkville, Cameron (Emily) Beaty of Dallas, TX, Griffin (Danielle) Moore of Nashville, TN, and Penn (Becca) Moore of Spring Hill, TN as well as four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Cameron Beaty, Will Martin, Griffin Moore, Walt Trevathan and Penn Moore.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Montgomery Gardens assisted living facility in Starkville for their friendship and compassionate care during Peggy's residence there. Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church music ministry.
