Rex Swedenburg

Rex Carlton Swedenburg, 90, of Columbus, MS, passed away on July 16, 2026 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – GT.

The graveside service will be Sunday, July 19, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Friendship Cemetery in Columbus, MS with Bro. Vaughn Stafford officiating. Lowndes Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.

Mr. Swedenburg was born on February 4, 1936 in Pickens County, Alabama to the late William Walter Swedenburg and Sara Evelyn Hydrick Swedenburg. He graduated from Lee High School and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Swedenburg was a veteran, serving in the United States Air Force. For 60 years, he was the owner of Rex Hardwood.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Swedenburg was preceded in death by his siblings, William Swedenburg, Winfred Swedenburg, and Sara Swedenburg.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Pattie Swedenburg; his son, Michael W. Swedenburg and wife, Ann, and their children, Lindsey Swedenburg Pond and husband, Stephen Pond, and their children, Shiloh, Shepherd, and Sterling Pond; Baker Swedenburg and wife, Claire, and their children, Liam and Wynn Swedenburg.

He is also survived by his daughter, Denise S. Caldwell and Bill Kidder; her children, Allen Caldwell and wife, Rachel, and their children, Landry and Lainey Caldwell; daughter, Carla Davis and husband, Drew, and their children, WL and Annabelle Davis.

He is also survived by his brother, Billy Swedenburg and wife Shirley.

Pallbearers will be Allen Caldwell, Baker Swedenburg, Stephen Pond, Drew Davis, Clint Loudermilk, and Beau Buse.
